SPINAL TOUCH MASSAGE
Spinal Touch is a powerful, unique and very effective light touch technique for treating chronic and acute pain. Bodies have an innate healing ability which is mediated through the nervous system. If the nervous system is working properly then the body can maintain a state of wellbeing and won’t need the intervention of pain treatments, drugs, or surgery; it can just look after itself. Spinal Touch retrains the body to relax and improve as a whole. Muscles move bone, not the other way around. Tight muscles pull bones out of alignment, relaxed muscles don’t. The purpose of Spinal Touch is to guide the body to realign itself with its center of gravity.
Each Spinal Touch session begins and ends with assessment using a plumb line. Dressed in a treatment gown or undergarments, the client stands on a special footboard. The plumb line behind the footboard is pulled straight by gravity and the therapist compares it to the client’s spine to check for any distortions. The therapist will make small marks on the body that indicate where it is out of alignment so they can then follow a correct course of adjustment. The actual treatment is performed face down on a massage table, where the therapist will direct the soft tissues at different contact points to influence the sacrum and pelvis to move into normal alignment. The therapist will then reassess at the plumb line.
Our bodies deal with a “domino effect”, postural distortion or pain can cause us to develop other symptoms, like neck pain. This gives rise to headaches and insomnia, then we introduce fatigue and anxiety, which sparks off back pain or asthma. Breathing difficulties cause muscles to strain around vital organs, and blood flow is impeded, this has an effect on the circulatory system and oxygenated blood is slow to reach and nourish other organs, or the digestive system. The inability to digest our food properly soon has an effect on the body’s cell structure and our senses begin to suffer. We end up with visual disturbances, sinus problems and infections or disease.
Spinal Touch benefits the body as a WHOLE, even for those who are treating a specific problem. Its purpose is to break the cycle in this domino effect, and by correcting these distortions, the body is at rest, where it will start to heal itself.
