Swedish Massage is the most popular and well known massage modality in the United States. The client lies on a massage table and remains modestly draped by the therapist. It is typically a full-body massage treatment except in areas that are contraindicated or that the client does not want worked on. Lotion or oil is used by the therapist during treatment.
The therapist will use techniques such as EFFLEURAGE, which is a free-flowing and gliding movement with light or medium constant pressure and PETRISSAGE, which is kneading and pressure on specific muscle groups.
